Body Defense Systems
BDS Methods exists for people who want to feel better without giving up their lives to appointments, pills, or procedures. We meet you with empathy, clarity, and a step-by-step plan you can actually follow. Many clients arrive skeptical and leave with traction: better movement, less pain, and more control over their day. That’s the win we’re chasing—practical progress that sticks.
Our Story & Approach
The Story Behind Nate
Nate Tellen is the founder of BDS Methods in Whitman, Massachusetts—an amputee, coach, and nurse who rebuilt his life through movement. His journey from childhood surgeries to learning to walk again shaped a simple belief: exercise is medicine. Nate blends strength training with hands-on recovery to help people move and feel better. The result is care that’s practical, empathetic, and relentlessly focused on your day-to-day function..
What BDS Methods Stands For
At BDS Methods, “BDS” stands for Body Defense Systems and Methods. We help you defend your body against the things that chip away at it—pain, stress, inactivity, and old injuries. Instead of masking symptoms, we look for root causes and give you tools you can use outside the gym. The aim isn’t perfection; it’s progress you can feel in real life.
Our Pain Management Philosophy
Pain is multifactorial—physical, emotional, social—and we treat it that way. Sessions may combine focused or radial shockwave, laser photobiomodulation, deep tissue work, Graston, cupping, and targeted exercise. We teach you how to dial pain down on a gradient so you can stay functional, play with your kids, and live your life. Over time, you build confidence, capacity, and a plan that actually fits your reality.
A Space Built for Everyone
Our training space is private, members-only, and intentionally small, so fewer hands touch the equipment and more attention goes to you. Every piece here is hand-selected for effectiveness, not trends—from classic Nautilus and Cybex to modern tools that meet you where you are. It’s a room built for all abilities and disabilities, from first-timers to seasoned lifters. Quiet, focused, and inclusive—that’s by design.

Looking Ahead
Our vision is simple: make preventive and regenerative care more accessible and affordable. Nate is advancing his clinical training to bring more primary-care perspective into the room while keeping the hands-on, movement-first approach. We believe the future of health blends smart medicine with smarter self-care. If you’re ready to move forward, we’re ready to help you take the first step.
